Fractured fairytales story arch

 The story of The Golden Bird is my favourite fairytale.

I have been learning about how to write a story using a story arch this week. 

Orientation - introducing characters

Inciting incedent - the start of some action

Rising action problems - first the problem was the brothers not listening to the fox

Climax - this is usually the most exciting part of the story

Success or failure - this is when something really good or really bad happens

Reslution - resolution is when you think of a plan to help the problem.

The human body

Today I have been learning about the human body and finding facts about it.

Did you know...
Skull. There are 22 bones in the skull,
Toe. the big toe in your foot only has two bones while the other ones have three,
Spine. The spine has 120 muscles in it.
Knee.the knee is one of the most stressed joints in your body.
Wrist. There are eight bones in your wrist.
Thigh. The thigh can also be called femur. The femur is the strongest bone.
Calf. calves balance, posture, stability,
Jaw. The jaw is the only bone in your body that is  bubble hingend.
Nose. your nose humidifies the air you breathe.

I had fun learning and putting the stickers onto the skelton.

Fractions

We practised in the morning meetings how to do fractions. it was hard at first then when I went onto the activity. It got a little bit more easier it helps using the app because it showed us what fractions were and how you can tell the difference.

On the website they had pizzas and the also had squares that you could use and touch to help you figure out the fractions by the end I've got the hang of fractions and that's why I think the website was good.

The golden bird

  Today I completed a SSR slide.

This fairytale is about a golden bird who steals golden apples from the king.The other characters

are the gardener, his three sons along with the fox, the horse and the princes.

Each brother set off separately to find the golden bird along the way he met a  fox who gave them  good advice. When you reach the two houses go to the poor house, not the rich one but the eldest two did not listen and got distracted but the youngest one did not.

The consequence of going to the wrong house was that they would not be able to go on and find the golden bird, because the youngest one listend in the end got lots of rewards like the golden bird and the golden horse a pinces.

The moral of the story is listen to people advice and choose the right thing.

Seps Web Word flash

 Today I completed a word flash on steps.

For this  challenge you had to look very carefully and if you blinked you would miss it.

At first the words were slow but it sped up and that made it hard so I ended up getting a bronze.

I think this activity is good because it trains your brain to picture the word into your head. 

Comment thread

 Today I did a comment thread, on Mercy's poem. I liked her word and I wanted to comment. 

I looked on Cybersmart to remind me of the all things I should add to a comment. 

I have asked her a question, I hope she will answer it. 

Acrostic Poem Verb - Celebrate

 I had to write an acrostic poem using a verb. 

First I chose the verb which was celebrate, then I had to write a sentance for each letter in the word and it has to have a colour in the sentance describing what it is. 

I chose some things that were colourful like the fruit around my house and things that I use everyday. 

It was fun hunting for all the objects because sometimes it was hard to figure out sentance starters that start with some of the letters in celerate. 

Teaching counting In maori

 Kia ora this week is Maori language week.

For this task  I had to teach someone how to count to toru tekau ma tahi maori. For this I chose my Grandpa because he only knows how to speak English.

First, I decided to teach him tahi to tekau. He learned it slowly and he had trouble with tuwhi, waru and tekau.

Next, I taught him maori up to rua tekau rua tekau, my Grandpa was having trouble remembering so I told him a strategy that helped me learn maori and it was after tekau you have to put tekau ma and that helped him get through most of the numbers until rua tekau ma rima he needed a  little help so I told him to practice and now he knows how to count to toru tekau ma tahi.

 

Steps Web

 Ki ora today, I completed rua activites on Steps Web.

The first one I did was called Sentence Builder, for this one I made the sentence that sounded correct with the words that were given.

The second  thing I did was alittle harder because you had to find the kuoros.    

This was also hard and made me porearea but now I Know some of my kuoros.

Roblox a complet Guide

 Today, I read the introduction of Roblox a Complete Guide.

This book is about Roblox which is an online game where you can build your own game as well as play other games. The book explains how you can make money by creating a good game that people think is worth paying for.

This is a great book because I like gaming and it is nice when I find a book on one of my favourite games. It inspires me to read more.

   

Steps Web

 Today I completed some levels on steps.

The first one I did was called choose the word, choose the word you think would sound right.

The next level I did was called word flash and that one was harder because the words would flash up on my screen and I had to guess what word it was.

I found it hard because I have not been on steps for a long time.

The Smartest kid in the Universe

Today I read the first two chapters of the Smartest kid in the Universe.

The main character is called Jake McQuade who goes to riverview middle school and he has a best friend named kojo who likes to watch

Kojak is the coolest kid in his school and he mostly goes to school because he wants to be with his friend kojo.

I found this book difficult to read but it was funny and made me laugh.

 

Typing

 Today I completed a slide for dance mat typing.

I did fifteen minutes of typing. It is hard to have good accuracy. I tried to use a book but I did not have a partner so I had to use cloth instead.

I have gotten used to the home row keys and I am excited to learn more.

I have been trying to do fifteen minutes a day to improve.

Madlib

Today I came up with a Madlib in my group.


With a Madlib you have to select some words and put them where they need to go like puting a colour where it says colour.

You can make really funny sentences, but sometimes they can have bad grammar because most of them are based in America. I enjoy making Madlibs because everyone is different and you can be as creative as you want.

Typing

 Today I completed a slide for dancing mat typing.

I did fifteen minuts of dance mat typing it was very hard to type without looking at the keys so I had to find a patner to hold a book.

I have been practicing the home row and i think I need to practise some more not looking.

I also need to type every day so can improve, this will help me get better. 

Fact Find Cameron Leslie

 I have completed a Fact Find.

First I wrote a short introduction on Cameron Leslie. I wrote what his profession is, as he is a paralympic swimmer I talked about where he was from.

Second, I listed five facts about him and his life. I watched a Youtube video and searched Google for more information.

Last I found four photos of him and showed where I got the photos and media from  .

I enjoyed finding out things and I am now more interested in the paralympics.  

Ninja Kid 6

Today, I read 42 pages of the 'Ninja Kid 6' Book.

 

 In the beginning of the story a kid named Nelson has super powers and when he needs to use them he can become Ninja Kid he got his powers from his Dad who went missing. Nelson's Dad had a twin brother who did not get any powers that made him jealous, Nelson also has a Mum and his Grandma who invents things.

Chapter two is all about the Holloween Fair it was on the 31st October. The fair is very fun when it comes round they have scary rides and good food, one of rides is called the spookey spew maker

and the howling werewolf! But they were to short last year so this year they eat there vegtsables so they can grow, and they also went throgh an excerise program they did push ups and streches because they were hoping that they would grow taller.

I liked this book because Nelson and Kenny always work together and look out for each other. 

Fact Find on Wilbur Soot

 Today I completed a Fact Find about Wilbur Soot .

Wilbur Soot is a Twitch Streamer and a Singer-Songwriter and has become an internet personality.

 

First I wrote an introduction about Wilbur Soot.  He went to university in Brighton Sussex where he grew up and graduated as an Editor in Post Production.

  

After that I listed five facts about Wilbur Soot, things like his date of birth and where he was born.

Next I showed some photos of him.

Finally I showed where I got the information sources from .

This is useful for me to know what to study at university, as I would like to become a streamer.

Compound sentences

Compound sentences are two simple sentences put together with a F.A.N.B.O.Y.S

The first step is to write a simple sentence.

Then you need a comma.

After the comma you need a F.A.N.B.O.Y.S.

The last step is to write a second simple sentence.

This is haw to write a compound sentence.

speed demon challenge

  I forgot some of my basic facts, so I went down a level,

so I have become faster and i got a better score and time.

I completed a speed demon challenge for addition to 20. I got 71/100 and my time was

9 minutes and five seconds.

Next time i will go faster by not taking along time on the ones I did not know.

Toy tech

Today the four amigos and I finished prototyping.

First we had to draw the design on the cup,  you could not trace from your chromebook because you don't own the photo and all of your group had to do the same design.

Afterwards we had to show Mr. Ogilvie we showed him and he said that the paper could have been stuck on better.Then we changed it then we got to poke a hole in the bottom of the cup.

Finally we put the rubber band through the hole we made before it was hard to put the rubber band through the cup and then we did the rest and finished.

I enjoyed making the party popper  because I learnt how the party popper worked.

My trebuchet explanation

 Today I have finished an explanationon of a trebuchet and how it works.

I liked this because I learned a lot about trebuchets.

Prototyping party poppers

The four amigos and I did prototyping.

First we got the materials we needed, then we tested some different triggers and we decided on the bolt.

Second we chose our filling that would go in the cup. We tested some fillings out and we did this by testing it in the cup. In the end we chose the beads.

Then we did prototyping I workwd out because we tested it and we liked it.

I enjoyed testing the filling because we could decide what was cool.

Table tennis skils

Today we learnt some techneques to improve our table tennis game.

First we started by learning the standard grip you could do this grip by pointing your finger like a gun and having your thumb was on the other side of the bat this grip is called the hand shake grip.

Then we learnt different ways two hit the bat they were forehand and this was the easiest to do, you could do this hit by using the hand shake grip. The next hit we learnt was backhand this was a little harder because you had too keep it up by your chest because if you had the racket too low it would put too much strain on your wrist. After we learnt the basics we played a game it was called champion some one had to be the champion and there was a challenger. We had to drop serve the ball to start the game. If it hit the net and went over the other side it would be a re-serve. I won some games, it was very fun. 

revision

Today we revised our moari from the term.

First we did tenei, tena, and tera, which means this and that.

Next we did runga and roto, which means on and in.

Lastly we did waho and raro, which means out and under.

After we went on the mat we played a game. It was a memory game.

I liked the game because I won a lot of pairs, the cards were showing the weather and we had to say the words in Maori eg. kapua/cloudy.

The Adventurs of Anders

 I read a book called The Adventers of Anders by Gregory Mackay. I read the first seven pages of the adventurs of anders for 15 minutes. After that i had to recall the story so far. Then we had to write down three new words from the story so far. I liked this book because it has made me want to read more.

Balance

Today we had to use balance.

We had to use balance because we had to use sports equipment like hockey sticks tennis ball and racket ,egg and spoon and volleyball and football.

The hardest one to balence was the foot ball because we had to lift one knee and bounce the ball one your knee and bounce three times.

Next we had to use a volleyball that was also hard because we had to set and dig on one leg and it was hard because it was tempting to put your foot on the ground.

Main ideas

 The book is about book is why animals migrate. They migrate because they need to move from a cold place to a warm place.

Similar simple machines

  Fun fact about wheel and axle is that the wheels generally spin in a balanced circle around an axle. Wheel and axel is used to move heavy objects from a place to a another place.

Unlike a nail, a screw has spiral grooves down its spike. A screw is pressed down against wood and turned with a screwdriver. The grooves cut into the wood. Screws is to hold luquid into a crate so not luquid would spill.

A pulley makes moving heavy loads a lot easier. A single pulley simply changes the direction of an object. Pulley is moving a heavy object from a low place to a high place.

Balance

 Today we did a about balancing but with sports equipment.

First we had to pass the rugby ball from our hip and we had to go one side with one leg. I started on the rugby ball. It was hard because we had to balance on one leg. It was hard because I had to pass from the side of my boday.

Second we had to do a balancing activitiy with hockey gear. We could not use the hocky stick to balance so it was a little bit harder. I like this activitiey because it was challenging and fun at the same time.

Third we had too use a friseby .Out of all of then the friseby was the hardest activitiy because it was difficult to catch and get a good throw.

Fourth we did an activitiy on the netballs out of all of them the netball was the easiest to throw and catch.

This was the most fun activitiy out of them all.

 

Cuse and effect

Today we learnt about cause and effect.

First we tried to figure out the cause and the effect.

Then we learnt about cause and effect.

Then we completed a task about cause and effect.

Time

Today I learnt how to tell the time difference.

First the time was 4:05 then I added 4 hours then the time was 8:05.

Then I added 35 minutes onto the 8:05 then the time was 8:40.

I liked that this activity because it helped me understand the time.

Marc Duffy

Marc is a Duffy role model. 

Marc learnt to read in prison and then came out with a Diploma in a Business.
Marc was the New Zealand Fight for Life boxing lightweight champ. He learnt the trade of a builder and owned his own business. Marc started by fitting out their stores at Bunnings now he manages the largest store in New Zealand which is located in Hamilton. Later Marc Duffy went back to university to become a counsellor.

Now Marc Duffy goes around to schools telling his story about his life and how reading helped him.

The highway rat visualisation

Visualisation is creating pictures in your head this helps understand what we read.

The highway rat is about a rat who is greedy and steals everyone's food,  he learns a lesson and everyone lives happily.

My Visualisation is different to the others because I added more attention and drama.

Place value and saying Numbers

 Place value is a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit determines its value.when we say numbers we group them within the same house. for example 15709 has fifteen thousand, seven hundred and nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce  big numbers propoley. It also allows us ti identify numbers before and after

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a greeting.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata Whenua (local inhabitants)

The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place. The Maunga (mountain), Awa (river), and Iwi (tribe) are generally used.

Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku Tipuna (ancestral place) and where you live is important for the audience to understand the positions of the Speaker. 

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitors that are being welcomed.

It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitor knows that there is no hostility in the two groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure long lasting relationships and connections.

  

Afl training

LS1  went to the field to learn some Afl skills first coach Mike. 

First we learnt how to pass the ball. Then we practised in pairs

Next Coach mike showed us how to kick the ball he told us to make an M with our hands and lassses away from faces.Then we practised with our pairs.

After that we played a game of octopus with the passing skills. 

I enjoyed playing AFL for the first time it is good to try new things.  

Print Deign Rules

 I learned about the print design rules.

First Mr. Wong  taught us about the main aspects of the print  design rules ,color,text,composicion.

I figured out wich posters,were good and bad with my partners.

Next,I figured out which posters were good and bad with my partners.

Last I  reorganised a poster to make it look good.

 I enjoyed this activity because I knew nothing about print design rules.

Basict facts

I completed a stage Five activity on prototec 

I got 20/100. I struggled with  Division and grouping with 100

I need to go down to stage 4 and practise. 

Handwwriting

 I learned how to write the alphabet,numbers,symbols properly.

I watched a video to show neat  handwriting.

I wrote the characters neatly into my writing,book.

I need to improve on my T s and my and k s, E.  

The 3 p s

 We learnt about the 3 p s in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First M.r ogilvie introduced the 3 ps in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are protection, partnership, participation. 

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 p s in ls1 .

lS1 figured the 3 p s are all connected to me.

After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connected to me.

I chose thes 3 statements because they will help me be successful with my learning in 1sl.I will have a good attitude towards learning.

 

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days

 I read the first 14 pages of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days Jeff kinney.

Greg wanted to play video games all summer holidays but his dad told him to play outside. 

I like Greg because he is like me because he likes to play video games.

Basic facts

I created a basic facts chart using Google Sheets. 

First I used uni link cubes to find out number bonds to ten, twenty and doubles.

While I was using the cubes, I recorded my results on my chart.

Lastly I learnt how to use spreadsheet shortcuts like Ctrl C and Ctrl V to create my chart faster.

I liked using the Uni link cubes because it helped me figure out the bonds I didn't know.
